Get a gravatar

If you’ve been perusing the somewhat… strange… comments on this blog, you might have noticed that my comments have my (freshman year of high school) photo next to them. You might’ve called such a picture an avatar, buddy icon, buddy picture, buddy pic, display icon, or mugshot (I just made that up). For our purposes, let’s just call these handsome images “gravatars.” So you’re wondering how you can be cool like me and have your own gravatar, eh?

It’s simple. Get an account with Gravatar, upload an image, wait for them to give it a rating, and you’re good to go. Now when you leave a comment here, using the same e-mail address you used for your Gravatar account, your gravatar will show up next to the comment (only PG photos are accepted here, sorry). The same gravatar will work on thousands of blogs that support this feature, such as… .

Now, because the gravatar that shows up depends on the e-mail address you fill in, you can’t use a fake e-mail address like David’s classic “123@IwantSpam.com.” But now everyone will recognize you as that weirdo who used a Dancing Elmo gravatar, without having to squint to see your name at the bottom.

Please don't mark me as junk Minh

I have seen the best site there is: 888 is the one. However I had enjoyful playing at pacific poker bonus http://www.isavecoupons.com/pacific-poker-bonus.html pacific poker bonus as well. The biggest pacific poker bonus of all is you best bet on betting.

Stranded on an island

For posterity’s sake, we’re going to digitize various dorm fixtures, starting with the first floor Question of the Week, courtesy (I assume) of Jarreau. So this week’s question:

So here’s the deal… you’re an apprentice under the man upstairs (no, not God… Ilder… upstairs) and you’re writing a play. The scene is someone trapped on an island. Your job is to pick a) the person (from Zapata) and b) one object that your main character is trapped with… It better be funny! And don’t forget to explain your choice.

You can either stop by the whiteboard outside Jarreau’s room on the first floor and try to find some whitespace for your response, or you can post a comment to this entry. (In case you haven’t noticed, if you have an account with LiveJournal or TypeKey, you can now post a comment without having to fill out your name and e-mail address every time.) If you’re on this website’s front page, hit the Comments link below.

Update: Ilder, you might want to take a look at some of these comments… there’s plenty of material for a highly entertaining production here.

Boston Cream Pie for everyone!

Okay, so we’re not giving out free Boston Cream Pie. But soon, we will give all you Zapatistas access to this website, so you can help keep it up-to-date with current events and shameless plugs.

Right now, this website only consists of a blog; we intend to add much more in the near future (by Thanksgiving, say). The front page works basically like a bulletin board, and all you need to do is to log into Movable Type (MT is a webmail-like service, run right out of our dorm’s CGI account), click on Create a new entry, and type away.

You don’t need to know HTML: there are a few buttons right above the textbox that let you make text bold, add a link, etc. I’m working to install an add-on that’ll make the New Entry form work a lot more like Word, so you can even add cute little tables to your entries without even knowing an apostrophe from an angle bracket – though if that’s the case, you might want to take Aton’s CS1B class, now enrolling.

Our intent is to have people post some of their announcements to this website instead of to the mailing lists, to reduce some load on everyone’s inboxen and stuff. Because we want the whole world – not just mailing list subscribers – to see that we truly are tu papá.

Once our midterms are out of the way, we’re going to start going around the dorm, signing people up for Movable Type. All we need to know is your name, e-mail address, and birthplace (you’ll find out why later), and we’ll try to set you up right then and there. If you can’t wait to try your hand at defacing enhancing the Zapata website, just me with your information (but don’t spam the mailing list!) and we’ll set you up.

By the way, Dave, is Boston Cream Pie any good? I always hear about it on Arthur. Also, did anyone notice that we’re already Google’s first result for “casa zapata”? Google loves blogs.

Wishlist

I understand how inconvenient it is for everyone to stop by my front door and take a look at the voluminous Website Wishlist that you’ve all contributed to, so I’m reposting it here:

  • Pictures of us!
  • Porn from the Scavenger Hunt!
  • Halo Scores
  • Daily Horoscope updates

If you’ve still got any further suggestions, you can post a comment on this blog entry. But I think just about everything’s been covered above – enough to make a decently full-featured website, at least.

By way of introduction

Hello, my name’s Minh. (Audience: Hi, Minh!) This quarter, Guille(rmo) and I are going to be your dorm’s collaborative, benevolent dictators. (Yes, we’re also going to be oxymoronic.) Together, we know more Internet-ready three-letter acronyms than could possibly be good for our health. But fortunately, PHE happens to be one of them.

We’d like to thank Steve Nguyễn for finally giving us access to this site. (By the way, Steve was last year’s resident hacker computer expert.) Unlike the Munger Project, this contruction project is scheduled to complete sometime before the juniors decide on their majors. Did I mention we’re going to be benevolent?

Anyways, congratulations on finding this little corner of the Web. We promise it won’t look quite so blue by the end of the quarter – just give us some time to get things sorted out. We also promise this corner won’t be so small by then – first Zapata, then… the world!

Or at least Google.
